Groups Tutorial

Introduction

This is where to find help with the Groups and Community features of your site. If you have access to the administration menu across the top of your site, many of these steps can be completed in the fly-out menu above. To most easily use this tutorial, you should open a new browser (Firefox) tab or window. Keep this tutorial open in one window / tab and follow the steps in the other window / tab. Most browsers you may open a new tab by pressing Control-t and a new window by pressing Control-n. If you need further assistance, please do not hesitate to Contact us.

To add a Forum Topic

  1. Go to Content Management > Create Content > Forum Topic
  2. Title the post, type the body and be sure to select at least one Group to relate the topic to
  3. Press Save

To Post to a Group

  1. Go to Content Management > Create Content > Group Post
  2. Title the post, type the body and be sure to select at least one Group to relate the topic to, and any other pertinent fields
  3. Press Save

To Create a New Group

  1. Go to Browse Groups to verify a similar group does not already exist
  2. Go to Content Management > Create Content > Group
  3. Enter any Registration Key you wish to associate with the group. When a Registration Key is set, the group administrator can give potential new members this key and when the member decides to join, they type in the key and are automatically authorized in that group.
  4. Title your group descriptively, Upload any group logo you might want to show, decide the Privacy level of your group and whether or not to list in the directory and be sure to write a clear and explanatory Mission Statement for your group so potential members will have a good idea of what to expect.
  5. Press Save

To Edit a Group

  1. Go to Browse Groups to find your group.
  2. Click on its name to take you to its main group page.
  3. Press the Edit tab to make any changes
  4. Press Save

To edit Registration Keys

  1. Go to Organic Groups > Edit Registration Keys
  2. Click on the Edit link associated with the Group whos Registration Key you wish to edit
  3. Add or Change the Registration key and press Save
